Hilarity in the Form of Pistachios

Hello friends! It's been a while since I've put anything up but I found this video and just had to share it with you.

This was shot over  a year ago whilst being creative (and eating pistachios) in the local coffee shop. It's silly and scary and just too much fun. Check it out!

Kids Say The Darndest Things

For anyone who doesn't know, I am actually a nanny in my waking hours. I love my job immensely. Kids are a joy being so much more innocent than the rest of us. In fact, I laugh most every day that I work.

Today was one of those days and it was so OUTRAGEOUS that I thought I'd share it.

One of the little girls I work with has an... issue... with her digestive system. Not a medical one but rather one that... well, it's just uncomfortable for anyone around her. Every now and again it is as if something died inside her. I know, gross, but I have to set you up for the great part.

ANYWAY, so it is a FIRM rule that if we are in the car when she has her... issue, she is to ask me to roll down the window. None of us want to be fumigated whilst driving.

So, today, we are driving down the highway when all the sudden out of the middle of nowhere a strained, crazy-sounding yell comes from the backseat,

"JESSICA, ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW. ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW! HURRY! I'M GONNA ----!"

Apparently something snuck up on her.

A Fan Review: Obsolete World

Good afternoon Everyone! Here I am doing another fan review. This time it won't be just an item but an entire shop that I've come across
at Etsy.com. This review is very exciting for me to do because the artist lives right here in Portland. Soooo... onto the review for

Obsolete World

This artist caught my eye a while ago but I decided to do a review because I keep going back again and again to view the work. The artist renders her works using "watercolor, charcoal, pastel and ink". She sells mostly prints in her Etsy shop but also has her own website and blog

Her work is incredibly beautiful but it has a sadness to it that makes you ache when you view it. Most of her works depict otherworldly creatures in isolated or just plain bad situations but always with an overall feel of whimsy.

All the pieces at Obsolete World are completely unique, however if I had to compare them to something that is pre-existing I would say it is a mix of Brian Froud and Tim Burton in watercolors.

This shop is an absolute must-see for the angsty romantic in all of us! Please go by and pay her a visit. (All the links are above)

The Blue-Footed Booby- A Shower Conversation

Ok, before you read, let me just begin by saying, yes, my partner and I were in the shower while having this conversation. The truth is that ALOT of our best conversations happen under our magnificent "rain-like" shower head. Nothing sexual or crazy. Ever. Just wonderful conversation. You should try it sometime. Anyway, on to the Blue-Footed Booby...

(This photo is NOT mine. It can be found on Wikipedia.)
My partner, whilst rinsing the shampoo from her short locks, says to me, "Do you know anything about the mating habits of the Blue-Footed Booby?"

I snicker. "Nope, can't say that I follow their mating habits too closely."

"Well," Says she, picking up the bar soap. "It's pretty great. Apparently the guy, I mean the male, Booby and the female Booby stand about 5 feet apart, ignoring each other."

"Sounds hot." I say with a grin.

She shoots a wry glance my way but pretty much ignores my comment. "And then," She continues. "Out of nowhere, the male picks up his foot and lifts it WAY in the air!" I wish I could say that at this point she DID NOT demonstrate this in our small shower but I will not lie- she did.

"He looks at it and then slyly at the female as if to say 'Hey, look at this pretty blue foot. Wow, it's somethin.' And then he sets it back down, just a little closer to her." My partner sets her foot back down. (Thank GOD!)

"Then the female lifts HER foot high in the air..." I'm glad to report that she did not repeat the prior demo. "...as if to say, 'Well, you think that's nice, look at THIS pretty blue foot!' And then she sets her foot down a little closer."

I look completely amused.

"They just continue to do this, back and forth, mostly ignoring each other and totally into showing off their feet. Until they bump, WOAH, right into each other. And look sort of surprised..." I'm going to guess this is more opinion than fact. "...that the other is right there."

She sets down the soap and bumps me out of the way to rinse off. I am chuckling to myself, aren't you? The conversations we have in the shower... as I said before, you should try it sometime.

(NOTE: I don't know how much of this is fact. Do your own research before doing a lecture on the mating habits of the Blue-Footed Booby.)

New Line of ASL Paintings

If you've taken a look at our Etsy shop recently, you will have seen the first in a series of paintings that I have started. The title of this painting is "Raining".

This series of paintings will all be based around a sign in ASL (American Sign Language). The whole project is inspired by my partners love for the language and the deaf community. She is not actually deaf herself but her passion for the language is remarkable.

The darker muted colors in the background represent the vibrations of rain and how those vibrations might be to a deaf person 'pitter-patter' is to the hearing. It's my interpretation of the meaning of the word "raining" as a sign.

Keep checking back with us as more paintings are finished. If you are interested in purchasing a print of this painting, go to our Etsy shop.
